At School of Sexuality Education, we value our relationship with parents and carers. They play a crucial role in shaping our RSE resources and in providing feedback, and we are passionate about cultivating and maintaining this rapport.

We centre the needs of young people and strive to empower them - but recognise that parents and carers in their lives often play an important part in their development. Our approach is led by evidence-based research, which shows the various ways the inclusion of parents, carers, and the wider family, in RSE is beneficial to children and young people. Guidance published by UNESCO and the Sex Education Forum demonstrates that many children want to include their parents in discussions around sex and relationships. 

At School of Sexuality Education, we encourage parents and carers to continue RSE conversations beyond the classroom, through small and regular conversations with their child.

We actively engage with parents and carers by regularly taking the time to meet with them and show them our content and approach. Some of the ways we do this are by:

  • running parent and carer workshops, (we work with hundreds of parents & carers each year)

  • facilitating content run-throughs,

  • hosting Q&As.

These interactions enable us to have a two-way knowledge exchange. We receive feedback and learn from parents’ and carers’ experiences to ensure we are providing the most useful information. It is an opportunity to share important tools and equip parents and carers with confidence to talk to their children and young people about relationships and sex.
