Discharge helps keep the vagina moist and protects it from infection. It’s thick and sticky for most of the menstrual cycle and clearer, wetter and more slippery around the time of ovulation. *

It’s a good idea to get to know your body and what “normal” discharge is for you as change in discharge can be indication of an infection. Usually “healthy” discharge is white or clear. *

Periods are the shedding of the
womb lining. The average person will pass between two and eight tablespoons of menstrual fluid during their whole period. Did you know? The uterus can double in size during menstruation, which means you might feel like you need to go to toilet more and feel super bloated! On top of that it’s normal to feel cramping, nausea, tiredness, abdominal pain and sensitive breasts. IMPORTANTLY don’t forget that sperm can live for up to five days in the vagina, so if you ovulate soon after your period, you could technically get pregnant.

Sometimes it is called 'termination of pregnancy'. There are two types of abortion treatment, “Medical” (taking a pill) and “Surgical” (a quick, minor operation). Most women living in the UK (excluding Northern Ireland) can have their treatment paid for by the NHS - so most abortions are free of cost.
