The Benefits of Nakedness - an event by The Candid Collective

Our partner organisation The Candid Collective presents:

An academic talk by Dr Keon West followed by a life drawing class with a difference.

About this Event

Dr Keon West, Reader of Psychology at Goldsmiths University, will kick off the afternoon giving a talk about his research on the mental health benefits of nakedness. Research which suggests that those of us who get naked in public are more likely to be happier not just with our bodies, but with our lives more generally.

Keon has received numerous international awards for his research, teaching and social activism. He has worked with a number of highly respected media outlets including the BBC World Service, Radio 4, Channel 4 and the Guardian. He is especially well known for his research on sexual orientation, prejudice against sexual minorities and sexual health. Keon's talk will be followed by a short Q&A.

After a short break, Ruby and Rosy from Body Love Sketch Club will take centre stage. Body Love Sketch Club is a life drawing class like no other where you both draw and are drawn. While Ruby and Rosy will start by taking turns to facilitate and model, students are then invited to model for a smaller group, as clothed or as naked as they wish. The class casts a joyful, loving and accepting eye over the (optionally) naked body, and taps into a playful and creative practice, exploring our relationships with our bodies.

All drawing materials will be provided. Alcohol will be available to purchase. This event is for over 18s.
